Hospital de la Familia is more than a volunteer experience. It is a partnership where visiting medical professionals and Guatemalan providers expand access to care while strengthening local expertise through education and training.
The Impact of Your Service
Each year, Hospital de la Familia serves more than 20,000 patients and performs over 8,000 surgeries. Approximately 35% of patients travel from nearby southern Mexico to receive care.
Visiting medical teams (jornadas) work alongside Guatemalan providers across specialties including general surgery, OBGYN, plastic surgery, ENT, audiology, pediatric surgery, ophthalmology, anesthesia, and nursing.
Together, these partnerships expand access to specialized care while strengthening local healthcare through training, collaboration, and shared expertise.
No one is turned away. Patients pay on a sliding scale, ensuring care remains accessible regardless of financial circumstances.
